By following these simple steps, you can make sure your new treatment looks great for years to come!

Smp pre-care - before your scalp micropigmentation treatment

There are a few things you can do to prepare for your Scalp Micropigmentation treatment. Taking some time to prepare yourself prior to the treatment can help to ensure better, longer-lasting results. Some things you can do include: Exfoliate your scalp in preparation for your scalp tattoo 7 days prior and again 48 hours prior. Shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo at least 24 hours before your treatment. This will help remove any build-up on your scalp that could interfere with the application of the pigment. To avoid discomfort, do not drink alcohol or caffeine a day before your procedure. Avoid using any products in your hair that contain oil or silicone in the week leading up to your treatment. These products can interfere with the application of the pigment and may cause it to fade more quickly. If you have dry skin, it’s important to moisturise your scalp with a water-based moisturiser. This will keep the newly applied paint from flaking off and removing some of what was already laid down on top in just one session!

Short-term Scalp Micropigmentation aftercare routine - 0-5 Days

For the first 5 days following treatment, you should avoid the following to maximise the life of the SMP treatment: Heavy sweating – The intense sweating that often occurs following the hair tattoo treatment could interrupt the healing process. Try not to engage in any rigorous exercise for 5 days after your SMP session! Exfoliating and shampooing – The act of scrubbing the scalp tattoo can be very harsh on your skin and open wounds, especially if you are not careful. This process could even introduce new chemicals into an already sensitive area which would make it worse! Shaving – It is important to avoid shaving and irritating the area while it’s healing. Shaving can cause nicks, cuts, or irritation that could lead to infection in your skin! Exposure to long-term sunlight – The sun is a powerful source of UV rays that can lead to premature fading and damage to your scalp pigment. Touching with hands – Try not to touch your scalp with your hands too much. You could introduce bacteria and increase the risk of infection.

Mid-term Scalp Micropigmentation aftercare routine - 6 to 10 Days

So after 5 days of following the aftercare advice, you will be on your way to healing well. However, the healing process must continue to ensure your Scalp Micropigmentation treatment lasts as long as possible. So from day 5 to day 10, you should: Wash your head gently with cold water and mild soap with natural ingredients. You may find that some minor scabbing is occurring after the SMP treatment. This is normal. Don’t pick at them; let them fall off on their own. Moisturise your head with a small amount of natural moisturiser three times per day. Don’t put anything with chemicals on your scalp, as this may cause irritation and can impact the colour of the pigment. You can start doing light exercise, but refrain from anything intense that will cause excessive sweating.

Long-term Scalp Micropigmentation aftercare routine - Day 30+

Now that your scalp has completely healed after your SMP treatment, you can get back to life as you know it, only now with more confidence! However, make sure to follow these two simple ongoing SMP aftercare steps to ensure you get the most life out of your Scalp Micropigmentation hair tattoo as possible: Use SPF 30 to 50 sunscreen on the scalp whenever you will be out in the sun. Use low-shine, natural moisturiser on the scalp daily.
